Queensland councils are now getting ready to auction off recovered trolleys and also fine retailers who have not tried to prevent trolley theft using coin locks or wheel locking systems.

Can you afford not to fit Ausmart’s coin locks or wheel locks to your trolleys?

Look at this recent press report:

Law to get tough on trolley truants

The war on abandoned shopping trolleys is about to hot up. Tough new laws are expected to come into force this year that will punish retailers who fail to take steps to stop trolley theft.

In Logan, a known hotspot for abandoned trolleys, the council laws are expected to be in force as early as July. Fines have been proposed for retailers whose trolleys are found outside shopping centre’s if they have not taken steps to stop trolley theft, such as putting in place coin-lock or trolley wheel lock systems.

In Brisbane, Lord Mayor Campbell Newman plans to push ahead with an auction by the end of the month of more than 8000 abandoned shopping trolleys. Local Government Association of Queensland executive director Greg Hallam said other councils were planning to follow Brisbane’s lead. “We think Brisbane City is taking the right course (with the auction),” Mr Hallam said.
